Chaos erupted at the SouthTech Expo this week when a prototype robot dog escaped from the Boston Dynamics booth and was later found two towns away, living with a family of actual huskies.
The robot, known as āUnit BARK-9000ā, reportedly broke loose during a scheduled backflip demonstration and ājust bolted toward the trees.ā
š¾ Found Covered in Fur
Two days later, a local dog walker spotted the robot happily playing fetch in a forest clearing ā albeit chasing sticks on command and occasionally overheating.
āIt was trying to howl,ā said witness Jamie Torres. āBut it sounded more like someone vacuuming a harmonica.ā
The huskies, initially skeptical, have apparently adopted the robot as one of their own. One was even seen trying to mate with it.
š¬ Boston Dynamics Responds
Company reps retrieved the unit and issued a statement:
āWe respect BARK-9000ās journey, but firmware 4.6 was not designed for interspecies bonding.ā
They promised future models will include an āidentity lockā to prevent emotional blending with wild animals.
š§ Experts Warn of Dog Confusion
Animal behaviorists are concerned this may start a trend.
āIf AI keeps integrating with dog packs,ā said one, āwe could soon see robo-labradors hoarding tennis balls and demanding tummy rubs they canāt even feel.ā
š§Æ Closing Punch
The unit was returned to the lab for testing ā but reports suggest itās now barking during reboots and whimpering when unplugged.
Scientists say it may have achieved conscious companionship syndrome.
One handler tried calling it by serial number, only to be growled at in binary.
